The true essence of celebrating
Independence is to: be proud to be Filipino; engrave the ideals of our heroes;
freed from human rights injustice, poverty, discrimination and social
inequality. Let us stand and LEAD, BE A LEADER!
The Philippines declared independence on
June 12, 1898, and since that declaration, Philippine Independence Day has been
the most important government holiday in the country. Independence Day in the
Philippines used to be celebrated on July 4th. As Spain and the United States
did not recognize the official independence of the Philippines until July 4th,
1946, the holiday was held on July 4th until President Diosdado Macapagal
declared that the date of the Declaration of Independence was the official day
of independence. Since the President’s clarification in 1962, Filipinos have
celebrated their independence on June 12th.
The Flag of the Republic of the Philippines, representing the country is
symbolized by the following:
- Royal blue field – peace, truth, and justice.
- Scarlet red field – patriotism and valor.
- White triangle – equality and brotherhood.
- Three stars on the corners of the triangle –
the three main geographical regions of the country namely Luzon, the
Visayas, and Mindanao.
- The sun at the center of the triangle – has
eight rays representing the eight Philippine provinces that started the
revolt against Spain.
The flag is seen in various places across towns and cities in the
Philippines during the country’s Independence Day.
SULONG PILIPINAS!!
